rhododendrons - A Selection

Rhododendron 'Graziella' is a totally robust, evergreen rhododendron with tall, slender, deep green leaves that add appeal throughout the year in a mixed ericaceous border. It makes a lovely mound with its spreading habit, offering colour and form while requiring minimal upkeep throughout the year. Late spring and early summer bring clusters of pink bell-shaped blooms. Height: 120cm (4'). Spread: 150cm (5').

Rhododendron 'Silberwolke' is a dense, well-branched evergreen shrub that grows into a rounded shrub with little upkeep. This Yakushimanum hybrid is stunning in bloom and is deserving of its RHS AGM. The feathery white blooms emerge from purple-pink buds, providing a striking contrast to the deep, lustrous foliage. It's a lovely addition to acid borders, offering a burst of spring colour to shaded areas. Height and spread: 130 cm (52).

Rhododendron 'Klondyke' is a colourful hybrid from the deciduous Azalea group. The fragrant, flame orange flowers appear in late spring, just as the foliage is emerging. Young leaves are copper coloured, maturing through green to vibrant shades of red that will re-ignite fading autumn borders. This hardy shrub makes an excellent choice for acid borders or planted at the edge of woodland. Like all Azaleas, it is particularly useful for cold, north facing positions. The dark green leaves of Rhododendron ponticum 'Variegatum' are edged with silvery margins. From late May, a profusion of mauve flowers are borne in large clusters.

Rhododendron 'Catawbiense Grandiflorum' is a very vigorous shrub with a wide, round habit that bears clusters of large, bell-shaped, bright purple flowers with golden-brown markings in May-June. Pillar box-red, semi double flowers smother this prolific evergreen Azalea during late spring. In winter the glossy green leaves turn to a rich shade of bronze.
